What does this tool calculate?
The fee calculator sums all trading costs — broker commission, exchange and clearing fees — per trade and per roundturn (entry + exit). This shows you instantly how much of your premium remains after costs and at what point a trade pays off.
Formula & methodology
| Kostenart / Fee type | Typischer Wert / Typical value |
|---|---|
| Broker-Kommission je Kontrakt | $0,50–$0,75 pro Kontrakt |
| Börsen-/Clearing-Gebühr je Kontrakt | $0,10–$0,30 pro Kontrakt |
| Roundturn-Kosten | 2 × (Kommission + Gebühren) × Kontrakte |
Worked example
1 Optionskontrakt, Kommission $0,65, Börsengebühr $0,10: Einstieg $0,75. Ausstieg weitere $0,75. Roundturn gesamt: $1,50 — bei $150 Prämie = 1 % Gebührenanteil.
When do I use it?
Before every trade and when comparing brokers: fees eat a substantial portion of the premium on small positions. A 5-contract trade at $0.65 commission costs $3.25 per side — on a $50 premium that is already 6.5 % in pure transaction costs.
Frequently asked questions
Are fees charged per leg or per order?
Most brokers charge commission and exchange fees per contract per leg. A spread order with 2 legs and 3 contracts therefore incurs 2 × 3 = 6 contract charges. Some brokers offer spread discounts — check your broker's pricing page for the exact structure.
Are there extra fees at exercise or assignment?
Yes — most brokers charge a separate stock-transaction fee ($0.01–$0.03 per share) instead of the options commission on exercise or assignment. For 1 contract (100 shares) that can be $1–$3. Factor in these costs for any in-the-money option approaching expiration.
